Challenges of life on the reservation

- The unemployment rate is 80-90%

- Almost 50% of the residents live below the federal poverty line

- 54% of the children live in poverty

- 69% of the children live in single parent households

- The alcoholism rate is estimated to be as high as 80%

- Illicit drug use is pervasive throughout the reservation

- Up to 75% of the criminal cases are family violence related

- Adult suicide rate is twice the national rate

- Teen suicide rate is four times the national rate

- Estimated high school drop-out rate is 30-50%
